How do I sign up for SiteGround Hosting?

In our previous post we recommended SiteGround for hosting your WordPress.org website.

Let’s have a look at the steps for signing up:

1. Choose your hosting plan

SiteGround has three plans:

  1. The StartUp plan is perfect for people with one website that are starting up now.
  2. The GrowBig plan is a great value for money offer, including the option for multiple websites and SuperCacher that greatly improves a WordPress and Joomla website speed.
  3. The GoGeek plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like staging and GIT integration.

Step 2. Choosing Domain

You can choose to buy a new domain, or sign up with an existing domain. Free website transfer is included for GrowBig and GoGeek plans so don’t worry if your site is hosted on any other site currently!

The web design process: Step 2 – Planning

The second step in designing your website is the planning step.

Take your time on this one because it will save you a lot of time and hassle in the future.

This step involves creating a sitemap i.e. a list of all main topic areas of the website, as well as sub-topics etc. Be as detailed and clear as possible.

The user of your website must be kept in mind when designing your site.

And remember: A good user interface (UI) will (hopefully) create a memorable user experience (UX).

CMS

You might want to do some research regarding what CMS (Content Management System) to use i.e. WordPress.org, WordPress.com, Joomla, Shopify etc.

You might ask me “Which CMS is the best?”

Well, that depends on what you want to do on your website and your budget.

Hosting

Below is a list of Hosting companies you might want to look at. You can also buy domain names from them at relatively cheap prices:
SiteGround
Bluehost
Netregistry
HostGator
GoDaddy

Web Hosting

My personal preference is SiteGround due to their excellent customer service record. However there are cheaper or more expensive options based on your budget.

Functionality

Another aspect to think about is what functionality is needed for your website.

Will you have:
Contact forms? WPForms is an excellent, user-friendly and multi-functional WordPress contact form plugin
Live Chat?
Sliders?
Photo Galleries?
Forums?
Facebook or Instagram feeds?
etc…
